The main accused in the Rs4 billion cellular phone scratch card scam arrested on Monday, after remaining at large for two years, was produced before the court on Tuesday.

Sources said Usman Zafar, a former employee of the Warid Telecom, had fled to the United Kingdom in 2008, giving a slip to a raiding team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Voice and data connectivity provider Epsilon in collaboration with Multinet Pakistan has launched eConnect, the Carrier Neutral Interconnect Platform and its ePoP services in Karachi.

The eConnect Hub in South Asia will cater to the demand for the fast exchange of voice and data traffic between local telecommunication operators in Pakistan while providing a managed presence for local and international carriers.

In the mobile money discussion at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress 2010, Aamir Ibrahim, CMO- Telenor Pakistan highlighted the progress of easypaisa which very recently completed its first anniversary.

Ibrahim noted that easypaisa has potentially a huge market share as Pakistan was “grossly under-banked,” even compared to neighbouring countries such as India and Bangladesh.

A Sindh government plan to install cellphone jammers in prisons across the province has hit a snag thanks to the lethargy of the federal information technology ministry, which has not approved the project despite a passage of about nine months, it has emerged.

Orascom Telecom reported its third quarter net profit for the nine months ended 30 September 130 percent higher from a year earlier to USD 951 million, compared with USD 413.3 million for the corresponding period last year, thanks to USD 822 million contribution recognized on the Mobinil transaction.

Microsoft CEO Ballmer sells $1 billion of shares; says it’s for diversifying and tax planning

Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer has sold about $1.3 billion worth of his company shares recently, the first time he’s done so in seven years.

Ballmer confirmed the stock sales Friday and said they were made to diversify his investments and aid his year-end tax planning. He said he plans to sell as many as 75 million shares by year’s end. Securities and Exchange Commission filings by Ballmer this week show he sold about 50 million shares.
