The recognition of the Pakistani telecom sector has continued after receiving different global awards this year as the country will likely to be acclaimed with more titles.

Ufone has been shortlisted for the Best Brand Category of World Communication Award (WCA) 2010 among 10 other telecom operators nominated for this title, Charles Georgiou, Marketing Executive Total Telecom told TechPakora.

Etisalat, Grameenphone, Idea Cellular and Turk Telekom were the operators nominated in the same contest.

The announcement of the winner will be made on the ceremony of 12^th annual World Communication Award’s to be held on November 24.

Abdul Aziz, CEO Ufone has also been shortlisted in the final 10 CEO’s for the CEO of the year category.

Ufone was the only operator in Pakistan entered in WCA contest and shortlisted in 2 out of 17 categories of the WCA contest.

Word Communication Awards

The World Communication Awards recognise the companies and individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrows industry. The Awards are granted to all communications providers, whether they are traditional carrier, service provider, multimedia content provider or another organisation providing a communication service.

The World Communication Awards maintain their fiercely protected independence and focus on the big issues, while encouraging more entries from communications providers across the globe, both large and small, to ensure the awards can truly claim ’world’ status.

Pakistan has received four awards recently in telecommunication sector recently.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and its chief Dr Muhammad Yaseen have been acclaimed with global awards as Most Progressive Telecom Regulator in South Asia and Best Telecom Regulatory Leader of the Year by South Asian, Middle Eastern and North African (SAMENA) Telecommunication Council in Casablanca recently.

EasyPaisa and Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB) have also won awards for their best services of mobile-banking.
