The traditional way used to monitor CP is the manual measurement of potential risks by a dedicated team of field engineers and technicians. This required an operator to physically go out to the field and collect readings on a quarterly basis. Records showed that, a pipeline of 128 miles could take up-to three weeks to complete. Not to forget the labor, time and cost involved in this effort.
Now, using the GSM technology a complete M2M turn-key solution can be provided for web-based wireless remote monitoring systems for the oil, gas, irrigation, water/wastewater, and similar industries. The technology gives a reliable solution for data acquisition with low-cost telemetry, well-packaged hardware and easy-to-grasp web-based data presentation.
The flow diagram below shows how it really works.
This is one way mobile technology is used in the oil and gas industry. I believe more of such viable solutions can be made to help the agricultural sector.

Airblue’s flight ED 202 (Airbus A321, AP-BJB) crashed in Margalla Hills, Islamabad on 28 July 2010. Many questions have been raised about the crash and many theories have been floated by aviation experts, pilots, TV anchors, analysts and eye witnesses. According to many of these experts weather may have played a big role for the crash, but the most important question why the plain drifted off course? remains unanswered.
I have been following the crash and have gone through witnesses’ accounts, experts’ opinions and media reports and have arrived on to conclusion that human error coupled with poor visibility due to low clouds was the main reason for the crash.
The weather at Islamabad was rough with low clouds causing poor visibility. At the time of the arrival runway 12 was active. Initial investigation results suggest the airplane was flying too low in poor weather conditions and low visibility and incorrectly turned too late.
I think ED 202 connected to Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Benazir International Airport and approached runway 30, after completing the procedure and sighting the runway broke off towards the right as per Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) in order to complete visual circling approach towards runway 12. (Benazir International Airport features an ILS Category 1 for runway 30. Circling area has been assigned north of the aerodrome requiring left hand circuits for runway 12 and right hand circuits for runway 30. An ILS approach to runway 30 circling runway 12 required the aircraft to turn right (to the north) for the downwind and subsequently turn back onto final for runway 12.)
After braking off due to low clouds and low visibility ED 202 lost visual contact of the runway and the crew may have become disoriented. In this poor visibility the crew may have focused on 7th avenue as runway 12 and approached it for landing.
The radar had noticed the deviation and had warned the traffic controllers. Express TV reported that the pilot had received a warning that he was flying away from the runway. The pilot responded, “I can see the runway.” In a second exchange, the dispatcher advised, “Immediately turn left, Margalla are ahead,” referring to foothills of the Himalayas north of Islamabad. The pilot responded, “We can see it,”.
May be in poor visibility and disorientation the crew was taking 7th avenue as runway 12 and continued there descent for landing but after descending from low clouds realized that they were landing on the road, the pilot went on full throttle and tried to regain height to clear Margalla Hills but unfortunately it was too late and the plane smashed on the hills.
That’s why it was spotted by eyewitnesses flying unusually low, moments before the sound of the crash was heard.

Google has given a completely new look to the Google Images Search Web page. Now the viewers can see up to 1000 images on the first result page. Google has also implemented a new image-based ad format.
The main purpose of this new look is to reduce the number of clicks which are required to find the exact image one wants, and to provide more information about a particular image without having to click through to the result.
For basic searches, Google Images Search will now display up to 1,000 images on a single page, using “infinite scroll” to navigate down the page looking for the right image. The company also built a thumbnail preview that pops up when the viewer hover over a given image with information such as the URL where it is located, said Ben Ling, director of search products at Google.
Google announced that advertisers on Google Images Search pages will be able to insert an image into their text ads, to make their adds more relevant and appealing, so more users will click on those adds and more traffic will be generated for Google’s advertisers and more revenue for the search company.
Around 10 percent of the users are seeing the new interface at the moment, and rest of the users will be able to see this new interface in the coming week.

Google Incorporation energy unit has made a deal to buy wind power from NextEra Energy Incorporation for the next 20 years to power data centers.
The deal comes less than three months after the giant Silicon Valley Internet search company invested $38.8 million in two wind farms in North Dakota, developed by NextEra Energy Resources that generate enough energy to power more than 55,000 homes.
Google Energy LLC will begin buying wind power from July 30 from NextEra’s facility in Iowa at a prearranged rate, Urs Hoelzle, Google’s senior vice president of operations, said in a blog on Google’s website.
“Incorporating such a large amount of wind power into our portfolio is tricky, but this power is enough to supply several data centers,” Hoelzle added.Google has pushed ahead in addressing climate change issues as a generous effort through its Google.org arm.
NextEra said in late 2007 that it would invest in companies and do research of its own to produce affordable renewable energy, at a price less than burning coal, within a few years. The company’s Google Energy unit, formed in December, allows the company to buy large volumes of renewable energy from the wholesale power market.

Pakistani Parliamentarian Tariq Mehmood Bajwa has stolen the limelight and become popular in the chain-SMS throughout the country.
An MPA belongs to PML(N), the second biggest political party of the country, has marked tremendous record in the history of the world.
He has done his MA in 2002; BA in 2006 and Matriculation in 2007. He must be a world’s genius person got his education in reverse order in contrast to all educated people across the world but unfortunately he could not attend high school and did not get
Intermediate certificate.
The nation should congratulate him for his brilliant fake academic success but also support him to get admission in primary school for completing his education in descending pattern.
Mr Bajwa in his constituency, Banka Sahib in Punjab might have planned to open such school for new corrupt politicians in future to help them getting fake degrees for election but he may fail to make his dream true as his degrees were termed faked by Higher Education Commission (HEC) recently that may end his political career.
Well it is matter of disappointment; our nation always discourages such talented people who will make the name of our country on the top of corruption.
With the breaking of this revelation about his degree, millions of SMS has been circulated to pay tribute to him.
SMS inscribing hopes that he will get his name registered in Guinness Book of World Records.
Nevertheless, it is very shame for nation to have such politicians who cheated it and involved in forgery for the sake of power. These politicians caused bad name of our country in local and international media and blackmailed the nation in the name of democracy.
We should also condemn all these politicians and their parties at least in the SMS to create awareness about these evils of our society among masses.

“As of this morning, 500 million people all around the world are actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them,” Facebook founder Zuckerberg said in a blog post.
“This is an important milestone for all of you who have helped spread Facebook around the world.”
Examples given by Zuckerberg included Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen jogging with Facebook fans during his term as Danish prime minister and a US woman using the service to battle breast cancer.
“Our mission at Facebook is to help make the world more open and connected,” Zuckerberg said.
“Stories like these are examples of that mission and are both humbling and inspiring. I could have never imagined all of the ways people would use Facebook when we were getting started 6 years ago.”

Nokia the world’s top mobile phone market, reported a 40-percent quarterly net profit fall on Thursday to 227 million Euros but held its earnings estimate for its key devices and services unit.
The Finnish company had slashed its second-quarter and full-year forecasts for its key devices and services unit last month, citing severe competition as it faces growing pressure from Apple and Research in Motion (RIM) in the market for multifunction telephones. From April to June, Nokia posted a net profit of 227 million Euros ($290 million) in the second quarter, down 40 percent from 380 million Euros for the same quarter last year.
Analyst expected a profit drop of 30 percent, according to estimates published in the Finnish press. Nokia said its net sales were up one percent on a year-to-year basis to 10 billion Euros, and that the sales in its devices and services unit were up three percent on a year-to-year basis to 6.8 billion, but down two year-to-year in constant currency. CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, who according to the Wall Street Journal could soon lose his job because of his inability to hike Nokia’s performance in the competitive smartphone market, said the second quarter earnings gave reasons to be optimistic.
“Despite facing continuing competitive challenges, we ended the second quarter with several reasons to be optimistic about our future. For one, the global handset market has continued to grow at a healthy pace, led by some of the less mature markets where Nokia is strong,” he said.
Nokia continues to lead the cell phone market, but is under pressure from the likes of Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry in the high-end segment, with competitor’s phones seen as faster and easier to use then Nokia’s, which are based on outdated Symbian technology. Kallasvuo said the company would continue to renew its portfolio in smartphones.
“We believe that the Nokia N8, the first of our Symbian 3 devices, will have a user experience superior to that of any smartphone Nokia has created,” he said, adding the new model would “kick-start Nokia’s fightback at the higher end of the market.”
Nokia said it had sold 111.1 million devices in the second quarter, up eight percent on a year-to-year basis. But its market share stood at 33 percent, down 35 percent from last year and equal to the first quarter, while the average selling price of its devices was down to 61 Euros from 64 Euros a year earlier, a drop attributed to a higher proportion of lower-priced phones sold and price pressure on certain smartphones. The company forecast that its devices and services sales for the next quarter would total 6.7 billion-7.2 billion Euros. Shares in company, which had recently fall to their lowest level in 12 years, were up 4.22 percent to 7.28 Euros on a Helsinki Stock Exchange up 1.45 percent.
Excess use of the mobile phone could increase the risk of tinnitus. Tinnitus is a condition causes a noise in the ear such as a buzzing, roaring or hissing sound.
Around 10 per cent to 15 per cent of adults have chronic tinnitus and it affects quality of life, such as preventing sleeping, in up to 3 per cent of people.
Now experts from Austria believe there is a link between tinnitus and mobile phone use after studying 100 people with the condition. Some 27 per cent of the group had tinnitus in their right ear, 38 per cent in the left and 35 per cent in both ears.
Analysis showed that people who used a mobile phone on one ear for four years or more were almost twice as to be expected to develop tinnitus in that ear as those without the condition.
Meanwhile, people using a mobile for one to three years were 23 per cent more likely and those using a mobile for more than 10 minutes a day had a 71 per cent higher risk. This compared to a 2 per cent risk if they used a mobile for less than 10 minutes a day.
The authors, from the University of Vienna, said people are likely to over or underestimate their mobile phone usage and the length of calls.

The company generated $62.48 billion in its 2009-2010 fiscal year, a 7% increase from the previous year. This is yet another financial record for the Redmond, Washington-based company.
The primary drivers of Microsoft’s revenue growth were its Windows, Server and Business Divisions. Its second biggest income driver was its Business Division, specifically Microsoft Office 2010. The division generated $18.64 billion in revenue and earned $11.78 in income.

The company’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which houses both the Xbox and Zune divisions, lost $172 million in Q4, although it generated $1.6 billion in revenue.

It’s always important to know whether your SMS has been delivered to the recipient or not. Previously, SMS delivery was given by most operators free of cost but due to the traffic on the messaging system owing to these delivery reports, most of the times the operators would shut down the delivery report service. This would leave subscribers in the dark having no option of knowing whether it is a system glitch or their SMS has not been delivered. Currently operators are revisiting their SMS delivery report situation and developing a charged subscription service for this purpose.
This service will add to the list of value added services being provided to its customers. With this service, customers will get information in real time as soon as the SMS is delivered to the recipient and will be assured of the delivery of their SMS on the destination.
Subscription:
For subscription, subscriber can send “SUB” to 533 for activation of this service
Charges:
The charges for Delivery Report Service are Rs 10+t per month.

Telenor, the Norwegian telecoms group, said that there was not enough profit per phone user to justify having five mobile groups in Pakistan and operators would have to consider mergers or acquisitions in order to see significant growth.
Jon Eddy Abdullah, Telenor Pakistan’s chief executive, told the Financial Times: “Most markets are [divided between] three players. Three seems a very good number. Five is too many.”
Telenor entered Pakistan five years ago and is the second largest cellular phone operator after Mobilink, a subsidiary of Egypt’s Orascom Telecom . Pakistan’s other operators are Ufone, Warid Telecom and Zong.
Mr Abdullah refused to comment on speculation that Telenor would seek to buy out one of its smaller competitors in Pakistan. However, he conceded that consolidation would “drive every shareholder to talk to everyone else.”
Pakistan is part of broader expansion by Telenor across central and southern Asia, including operations in India, Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
Asia accounted for 26 per cent of revenues in 2008, with the rest coming from eastern and central Europe and the Nordic region.
Much of Telenor’s recent focus has been on its 67.3 per cent investment in Unitech Wireless of India . But the group also sees big potential in Pakistan, which has seen a phenomenal increase in the number of mobile phone users over the past decade.
According to statistics compiled by Pakistan Telecom Authority, the main telecoms regulator, there are about 95m subscribers in a country with a total population of 180m.
Mobile phone services are available across 90 per cent of the country.
The Pakistan government has said it is committed to moving from 2G to 3G mobile phone technology though it is yet to even outline a time frame for when that might happen.
Mr Abdullah said that the government would need to offer existing operators some incentives to move towards 3G.

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed all cellular operators to establish a system to sell SIM (Subscribers Identity Modules) by post to applicant subscribers within 15 days.
Briefing the media at the conclusion of exclusive meeting on prevailing law and order situation of Karachi, he said every mobile phone company should ensure accurate SIM registration with Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number of subscribers on war footing being used illegally in terrorist attacks.
He said companies should stop selling out pre-activated SIM and make it mandatory for its buyers to get registered SIM identity with National Registration Database Authority (Nadra) at any cost.
Citing his intelligence report, he said the issuance of 50 SIMs on single CNIC should be stopped because SIMs could be bought with the registration of stolen CNIC.
Cellular operators’ officials said no such plan could be established without their due consultation in shortest span of time, saying it is impossible for operators to sell SIMs by post, which is carried out safely by thousands of franchises and retailers in the country. All cellular operators are selling inactive SIMs, which is activated after its proper registration with subscribers’ CNIC by Nadra, they added requesting not to be named.
Operators have followed all directives of the operators and carried out utmost efforts to curb the misuse of the SIM particularly for unfair means.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with Nadra and cellular operators centralised the SIM Activation System in February 2009. It also launched SIM Information System-668 to rectify and update subscribers’ data with company against its CNIC number.
Rehman Malik has on several occasions threatened to block SIMs being used for sending SMS for “negative purpose.”
PTA distanced itself implementing on this directives and said it was not its domain to block and to monitor SMS of mobile phone users. The government has taken the decision in haste without determining the technical issues and will backtrack on it soon just like it did in the past, an official of leading cellular operator commented.
Interior Minister also said mobile phone users could help the government control the deteriorating law and order situation through sending SMS and MMS to Law Enforcement Agencies (LAEs). He suggested prize should be awarded to the people aiding the government to inform about miscreants and terrorists.
We have reported before that President Asif Ali Zardari is quite techy as he keeps an eye on latest technologies and their uses.
Recently, he proposed the authorities to use Google Earth to survey government owned lands to monitor illegal owners and land mafias.
We hope, President is not going to order for a committee and a budget of some million dollars for using Google Earth, probably a director with couple of assistant directors too for the project.
I am sure Mr. Zardari is also aware of the fact that Google Earth also captures those areas which Government of Pakistan may not want to reveal to general public.
President Zardari on the same day said that presently the users of internet in the country are 20 million and in coming years they would reach to 200 million, adding, the present government wanted to provide internet service and a laptop to every home.

All other companies increased salaries last year except Zong that paid higher salaries to only promoted employees.
Its good on Ufone’s part that it hiked salaries in tight economic situation.
Ufone didn’t confirm this increment officially.

The team representing NUST University took the 2nd position, with their project, “Inter-city video conferencing system” while the 3rd position was taken by the team from FAST University with their project, “Automation of physical distribution of E 1s”.
An inter-university contest involving teams of students from the leading engineering universities of Pakistan, Mobilink Super Engineer Competition provides the students the chance to work on a real life project with technical experts from Mobilink’s team. The projects were evaluated by a senior Mobilink jury having representation from different Technical departments against a pre- defined criterion of innovation and creativity, project presentation, meeting the timelines and meeting project objectives.
Rashid Khan, President & CEO Mobilink, awarded the teams with shields and certificates in the presentation ceremony held at the Mobilink head office. He appreciated the efforts of the participating teams and assured the winning team of opportunity of employment assessment within the Technical division at Mobilink.
Khan shared, “Mobilink believes in nurturing the intelligence of progressive youth and innovators of our nation. We recognize this as a very hands-on field and this is why the Super Engineer Competition was packaged as a project based drive. We were confident that with adequate support, our youth can indigenously develop modern technologies and truly innovative systems. The outcome of the participating teams has confirmed that.”
Thanking Mobilink’s Technical team for their support, Hafiz Zeeshan from the winning GIKI team shared, “This was a true test of what we had learned. Having the chance to work with experts in the field and being recognized for it has given us a renewed confidence in our ability. We will never forget this experience and opportunity.”
In addition to mentor programs, Mobilink also provides grants at Bachelor and Masters level for students of LUMS and GIKI. Mobilink also launched an innovative SMS Literacy project for rural women in partnership with UNESCO to improve the reading and writing skills of semi-literate women using cellular technology.
Express Tribune uses Google Custom Search service to facilitate its readers with best possible search results; however, webmaster has apparently removed the Google branding from search box, which is not allowed by the Google TOS.
One may opine that Express Tribune is using “Google Site Search”, a paid solution for businesses that allows removal of Google branding, however, ads displayed in Search results and “Google Custom Search” logo in results confirms that website is using the free version.
A query sent to Express Tribune’s webmaster regarding this is still awaiting response.
This violation, if reported, can cost heavy to Express Tribune, as Google can ban this website forever by not displaying it in Google Search, a nightmare for any online business.

There are electronic waves and these waves are generated for 30 seconds to 3 minutes. The brain will be working but the oxygen level and blood circulation is stopped to the brain and then the light waves are seen for the last time as if someone is pulling them. If the waves are not moved, it means the person is dead. There will be a last feeling before they die and it will be different in the different people. These feelings will be like mixing in the air, seeing favorite gods, separating the soul from the body etc.
The death experience is first explained by the American singer in 1991 and she said that she was able to see the lamps in air when her skull was separated from her. A research is done on the same issue in the Weill Cornell Medical Center in NY. They interviewed 700 people who went to the last stages due to heart attacks. They are trying to use the advanced EEG machines and are trying to find out what actually happens before.

They think how can we use our God gifted talent to serve other humans, which bring true value to society as Einstein said “Try not to become a man of successful but rather a man of value”.

کوئی قابل ہو تو ہم اسے شان کہی دیتے
This is a verse by Allama Iqbal which conveys message from God to a common man that “If you’re talented and you work hard you’ll be rewarded”. It’s rightly said that “Human brains have powers beyond measures”. This statement has been proven by a group of Pakistani students from NUST University who recently invented Brain Controlled Artificial Robotic Hand.
This Robotic Hand is very simple to operate and it’s a blessing for handicapped people. Just connect some sensors with your arm, now whatever you think in your brain regarding the movement of your arm this robotic arm will follow your brain’s order.
These kinds of projects are very rare and expensive in the world but Pakistani students maashaaAllah with their talent and hard work proved again that when we work for what we desire we get what we need.
