Japan’s largest mobile telecom company, NTT-DOCOMO, has expressed its interest to invest in Pakistan and to enter into a joint-venture with a local mobile operator, reported The News citing a senior official.

These developments were reported when Iftikhar Babar, Economic Minister in Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo, visited NTT-DOCOMO head office.

After reaching saturation level in local market, DOCOMO is long looking for investment opportunities in Middle East and Africa. For the purpose company had been in talks with Etisalat, Qatar Telecom and Saudi Telecom.

DOCOMO is currently operating in India, Bangladesh, Philippines and South Korea.

It merits mentioning here that DOCOMO’s had to lose USD 3.2 billion in 3 years for their 16 percent stakes in AT&T Wireless in United States.
