Acision has announced that over 660 million text messages were delivered across its messaging systems during a 48 hour period in Pakistan, over the 2009 Eid festive season. With 95 million mobile subscribers representing 58% of the mobile penetration rate, Pakistan is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.
“It is becoming very normal for SMS volumes to peak during festive seasons, mainly due to consumers opting to send SMS greetings because it is inexpensive, easy to use and supported by 100% of all mobile handsets in the market. One of the key drivers for SMS traffic growth in this market is the introduction of SMS bundles this year for the prepaid segment. With mobile users taking advantage of such bundles, SMS volumes are rising to new record levels to over half a billion being processed in just two days. These figures demonstrate that SMS is still the preferred choice for communicating and is set to remain the most dominant data revenue driver for Pakistan mobile operators.” Sherif Hamoudah, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Acision in Middle East, Africa and Pakistan said.

With SMS volumes continuing to increase year on year, Acision sees ample opportunities for operators to double SMS service revenues through innovations in messaging, and differentiation in the messaging experience through value added enhancements that provide convenience and productivity.
“Operators too, are realising that SMS must be managed in parallel to its overall business. By growing a messaging business on an open architecture mobile operators can rapidly roll out new services. The scalable nature of the Acision SMSC means that operators messaging systems can effortlessly handle substantial increases in volumes of messages within seconds. As the world’s leading messaging company, Acision has extensive global market reach which means we have a better insight into the present and future requirements of mobile operators and mobile subscribers.” Hamoudah added.

Ufone has a service for its prepay customers named ULoan.

Under this service, Ufone started giving Rs. 15 advance balance so its customers can enjoy uninterrupted communication, in case they run out of balance.

Customers can later on pay-back this loan on card recharge.
Since last couple of weeks, Ufone’s customers started complaining about the additional transaction charges which were being applied on the ULoan service. Customers have started sending messages saying that the extra charges which Ufone is taking is actually Interest (Suud), which is Prohibited (Haram) in Islam, alarming people to stop using Uloan as it is propagating Haram thing among the public.

If you check out ULoan’s details, it is clearly mentioned that transaction charges of Rs. 0.50 will be applied.

It’s a general notion that we don’t give much emphasis to the terms and conditions of any service. So, we can’t say how many people read the details before using this service.

To clear this confusion we contacted Ufone and asked for their viewpoint, which is given below:
....Type rest of the post here

It is absolutely clear that any charges deducted on Uloan cannot be classified as interest. Interest in any circumstances means that it has a compound effect and it multiples with time. Also those who fail to pay are penalized with extra charges in all the interest based products.
In the case of ULoan the customer has to pay onetime fixed charges. These charges remain the same whether the customer reloads the account after a month or after four months. There are also no penalty charges for not reloading in a fixed time period. These charges on ULoan are simply a transaction fee. All other cellular operators also charge for different services where amounts are transferred either from the company or even between the customers themselves.
It is unfortunate that a product that has utility for millions of customers and is an industry trend setter has been targeted with baseless propaganda.

On the other hand, an Aalim of Jamia Aloom-e-Islamia, Banori Town, Karachi said that the extra charges which Ufone is taking is clearly Interest (Sood) which is Prohibited (Haram) in our religion. Check out the below screenshot (Taken from official website of Jamia Aloom e Islamia):

It merits mentioning here that Mobilink also has a similar service named Jazz Advance under which Rs. 5 advance balance is given to the customers. But Jazz only charges back Rs. 5, no transaction charges are applied to utilize this service. You can check out Jazz Advance details at here.
I won’t conclude anything here. It’s upto you guys to decide what’s the reality behind all this. Is Ufone actually taking Interest or it’s just an attempt to damage Ufone’s Brand image.
Share your opinion in the comments.

Cellular companies strive hard to keep bringing the innovation in their services, sometimes through interesting and useful Value Added Services, with better pricing or sometimes with bundle offers. Through these ever changing tariffs and new promotions, these cellular companies aim at higher number of customers, higher usage of products and higher return to the investment.
Higher number of heads, their stamina to spend money on mobile communication, social norms, attitudes, literacy rate and other similar factors, Pakistani cellular market turns out to be very lucrative in nature.
Feedback from mobile phone users, consultation from cellular industry experts and journalists, we are driving following 5 offerings that cellular company should have to take a lead in Pakistani market.
60 Paisa Per 30 Second Calls to on-net and off-net numbers
Monthly SMS Bundle for Rs. 90 (can have a cap of 5,000 SMS a month)
On-net Hourly Night Package at Rs. 4 per hour

BOSTON (October 12 2009): The developer of the widely used Flash programming language has devised a wayto translate its code to run on Apple Inc's iPhone - a move that could dramatically boost the variety of applications for the iPhone.Programmes written with Adobe Systems Inc's Flash programming language currently cannot run on Apple's popular smart phone. Adobe has spent several years trying without success to persuade Apple to make technical changes to the device's software that would make it possible for Flash programs to run on the iPhone. In the absence of an agreement with Apple, Adobe announced on October 5 that it will introduce a tool that lets computer programmers easily convert software applications that they write in the Flash programming language to code that will work on the iPhone.Flash is designed so that programmers can write one set of code that run on multiple types of computers and mobile devices, including ones using software from Google Inc, Microsoft Corp, Nokia and Palm Inc.The iPhone has been the only major handset provider that has declined to collaborate with Adobe. The new option that Adobe announced on Monday will allow developers to create a second piece of software that they can distribute through Apple's App store Source : Flare

Subject: Unlawful Termination of 2 GMs & 5 SMs by PTCL Management through a CHEAT & FRAUD.
Asslam-o- alaikum,

We had brought into your notice from April 09 to Sept 09 individually – the cruelty and inhuman act PTCL has done to us – 2 GMs and 5 SMs who were serving in PTCL for the last 15-24 years. However it is neither addressed by the responsible in Government nor highlighted in the media properly so far, and we are writing to all of you again to bring in to your notice the shameful act PTCL has done to us and looted our previous service of 15-24 years without any benefit given to us of our previous service. We request the media personals to highlight the hardships we are facing now a days due to jobless condition made by PTCL management being run by ETISALAT.
Let we brief you the fact history of the case and we are available to give our viewpoint whenever called.
Two years back a program named “KEY TALENT” was started in PTCL. 3% of the total Engineers were identified as key talent of the department. It was really a tough process. Committee was constituted for the identification of key talent. Everyone was trying to be identify as key talent but not all were lucky one .Those who were identified as key talent were very happy at that moment while those who were left were very disappointed and depressed.
We were also the lucky ones who were identified as key talent. I and some of other key talents went to the SEVP HR and requested him for the guidance because our entire previous job was supposed to be surrendered to convert into NTC employee (New Terms and Conditions). The worthy SEVP HR encouraged and congratulated us to be identified as key talent of the PTCL. He told us that you are the real talent of PTCL, you are the chosen one and because of you people PTCL is an earning department and you are essential for PTCL strategic business. As he said that you are the real assets of the department there for the management will not leave you and give you all the possible benefits to retain the key talents of PTCL.
But everything went completely opposite only after one year and the key talenters are weeping to the moment they accepted NTC.Many of the key talenters including us are now kicked out of the company from Feb09 & April09 in the name of REORGANIZATION even though we had the service of 15-24 years. The rest are also threatened to be kicked out in the name of future REORGANIZATION..
As everybody knows that in the private sector, the companies take good care of their employees who are identified as real asset of the company. Priority is given in promotions; their salaries are much higher than other employees. They are kept satisfied from every aspect by the company.
But what happened in PTCL? Our services have been terminated and we now no where.
We are jobless for the last 5-7 months. Our throats have been cut and we are on the road. How we are running our day to-day expenditure? this we only know, facing financial hardships in this age when our children have grown up and studying in higher colleges/ universities.
The salary of the president of PTCL is 7.6 Million. Can anyone imagine this that in Pakistan someone will get 7,600,000/month? And still increasing every year. On the other hand , they are terminating the highly experienced staff who has given blood to this company for the last 15-24 years. We were selected through process of FPSC and inducted in T&T department and had served in this company from Engineer Level to GM Level. We did not request or apply for NTC to be given to us. PTCL management themselves identified us Key Talent and after trapping us in NTC by scrapping our previous service , they have terminated us in Feb09/April09 without assigning any reason. This is a clear “CHEAT” to us done by PTCL Management-ETISALAT.
We had taken our case to NA stg. Committee on IT & Telecom & gave presentations on 23July09 before the Honourable Chairman Mr. Birjees Tahir and NA Members (NEWS report attached) ; in which Sectreary IT & Telecom Mr. Naguib ullah Malik was asked to submit a report after consulting PTCL within a week, but no response so far as 2-1/2 months have been lapsed since then.
We had taken our case to Islamabad High Court and filed a WRIT Petition in July09 and Mr. Akram Sheikh is our lawyer, but Islamabad High Court is now closed, and thousands of cases in bundles including our case have been transferred in Pindi Bench of Lahore High Court. Only God knows when our case will be heard. Justice delayed is Justice denied. We appeal Chief Justice Mr. Iftikhar Choudary to take SUO MOTO Notice of this case on TOP URGENT Basis.
Where should we go and ask the justice. We can atleast ask Media people to bring this in-justice and in-human act done by PTCL to us and highlight this in the media.
If MANAGEMENT falls short of money and not in a position to give salary and terminated us , then where from it becomes available for the ARAB OFFICERS on deputation from ETISALAT ? They are given salaries 10 to 20 times that of the PAKISTANI Officers ….WHY ? …..Because PAKISTANIS are inferior in your eyes …They are not human in your eyes.If you talk of performance then whats the performance of these highly paid ARAB OFFICERS? What change they have brought in PTCL ?
As per recent statistics, the profit earned in FY2008-09 is 9 Billion, whereas it was 29 BILLION in 2005-06 – before handing over PTCL to ETISALAT. The main reason is the high salaries given to EVPs & SEVPs hired on contract. EVP draws salary in the range of Rs. 350,000 to 600,000 per month, whereas SEVP draws salary in the range of 700,000 to 1,000,000 Million. With this so called outstanding talent , the company is sinking day by day like Titanic ship.
We request to my respectable Political Leaders especially the Prime Minister and President to help us out these neglected Pakistani Engineers who passed their Engineering Bachelors degree in high colours from top Pakistani Universities and got selected in PTCL on very high merit criteria and now terminated from PTCL without any blemish on our part.
There is a tussle going on in Engineering and Non- Engineering Professionals in PTCL. SEVP(HR) Mazhar Hussain is Non- Engineering staff belong to Account section. He ids biased with Engineers, and that is why he has the role in terminating our services as we all are ENGINEERS. There are at least 10GMs belong to Accounts group in PTCL HQs only, but they are surviving only due to Mazhar Hussain SEVP(HR) and Namatullah CFO- both belongs to Account Group.
We also request media to support us and unveil the luxurious expenditures of the ARAB OFFICERS in PTCL.Do check their daily hotel bills and monthly salaries and thats all on just 25% shares. Please tell the the nation how these people expelled about half of PTCL employees via VSS by grabing money for this from our nation through PAKISTAN PACKAGE on PTCL Telephones. Some writers at that time pointed out this corrouption but then ignored it.
If you people also consider us part of middle class then save this shivering middle class before it they get frustrated from this country like so many others in private sector.
Mazhar Hussain SEVP(HR), Tahir Mushtaq EVP(HR) & Nasrullah CTO are the corrupt and culprits Pakistani officers who have played role in our termination from PTCL in the name of REORGANIZATION. What money they have saved for PTCL by terminating us by looting our services. Mr. Nasrullah who was made CTO after merger of Operations & Technical Department has put all his friends and batch fellows in SM & GM levels in Operations & Technical department ignoring our long outstanding services for PTCL.
Mazhar Hussain SEVP(HR), Tahir Mushtaq EVP(HR) & Nasrullah CTO got out of turn rapid promotion by slaughtering our throats. They are average staff and not even deserved for these postions but got promotion due to their evil activities in PTCL against PTCL Engineers. You can make survey in PTCL about these corrupt guys. In the name of re-organization in PTCL Operations & Technical department in March09, they ruined our services from PTCL. All these are juniors to us and were not any extra ordinary talent but now promoted due to our terminations showing to Arab Management that they have achieved their so called targets by staff cutting and showing it Walid Irshaid Presdient/CEO who does not know anything and even not capable to run PTCL affairs, but brought by ETISALAT to kill PTCL and its employees.
Landline connections which used to be 5.5 Millions in prvious year – now stands at 2.7 Million. Who is responsible for this? The answer is new PTCL non-competent management ETISALAT. Their agenda is to ruin PTCL and then go back , which was one of the best department revenue earning for the country and it was un-necessarily sold out by previous regime in peanuts specially by Mushraff & Shaukat Aziz. We request CJ Mr. Iftikhar Choudary to take SUO MOTO action for this loss.
If Mazhar Hussain SEVP(HR), Tahir Mushtaq EVP(HR) & Nasrullah CTO and other culprits are kicked out from PTCL today; no one will give them even the job of account clerk & technician. They are in-comeptent and sinking PTCL day by day. Mr. Nasrullah who is CTO now a days have served ETISALAT- Abu Dhabi UAE as Grade 4 -Technician in 90s.If media did not play the role at this time, the future is dark; and these so called Arabs shall keep on looting us with the assistance of these local corrupt officers. Our servcies have already been looted by them and not giving a single penny to our previous services even of 15-24 years.
We have even written to Cheif Justice Mr. Justice Iftikhar Chaudary for Suo Moto action, but so far no action has been taken. We once again request CJ thorugh media to take Suo Moto Action against PTCL for our un-lawful service termination from PTCL since Feb09/April09. Our Childern have grown up, studying in higher colleges/ unversities, and at this time , we are made jobless despite the fact PTCL declared us Key Talents.

Keeping above in view, we all, request Prime Minister, President of Pakistan, Secretary IT & Telecom to look in to the following:
Why PTCL management declared us Key-Talent before launching VSS, depriving us benefits of even taking VSS?? A clear CHEAT to us.
Why PTCL management offered us NTC (New terms & Conditions) ??as we did not even apply for it- this was the way to trap us in NTC. A clear CHEAT to us again.
Why PTCL management terminated our services without assigning any reason/ any show cause, looted our previous service of 15-24 years without any compensation?? when we all were delivering our duties perfectly well and President/CEO was giving us appreciation mails on our outstanding work . Again a clear CHEAT to us.
How they have terminated our services in the range of 15-24 years as we are Transferred Govt. Employees from T&T to PTC to PTCL?? A CHEAT & clear FRAUD to us.
Why PTCL management in this NTC; as they were keeping in mind that our services will be terminated in 1-1/2 year time?? A CHEAT & FRAUD from this ARAB dis-honest PTCL management.

We all request Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Iftikhar Choudary :
To take SUO MOTO Notice of this important case which has resulted us in Jobless condition by cutting our throats and deprived us our Govt. Service of 15-24 years without a single penny as compensation.
Issue the order to PTCL to cancel our termination order and take us back on our Govt. Regular service.
To take strict action against PTCL president, SEVP(HR), CFO, GM(HR) against our unlawful termination from PTCL service.
For all future inquires and presentations, we all are available in person whenever invited by President, PM, Secreatray IT&Telecom & Media . We shall keep on writing to all of you untill we all get relief and untill it is highlighted strongly in the media.
We request to PTCL NTC- KEY TALENT officers to circulate this mail to maximum media people known to you so that the above facts be widely circulated all over Pakistan.
Best Regards,
PTCL Sacked Officers as below:

E-mail marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fund-raising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer could be considered e-mail marketing. However, the main uses of it are to:

  • send e-mails with the purpose of enhancing the relationship with your current or previous customers and to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business,

  • send e-mails with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing current customers to purchase something immediately,

  • add advertisements to e-mails sent by other companies to their customers.

The basic concept of email marketing is simple, mainly a mailing list is used to send direct messages to a large group of potential customers.

It has many advantages such as

  • being low cost,

  • return of investment can be tracked,

  • delivery time is short,

  • can reach specific audience

  • and many others.

Now a days, companies in Pakistan are seeing its importance. There are many firms doing email marketing, while they are doing good – but they forget to add a very important feature of “Self un-subscribe” at the end of email, which is very important or the email will be termed as SPAM.
Following are two advertisements below which I received through email:
....Type rest of the post here

The first Ad is about a new clothing store located in Lahore and the second one is about a charity funded school. So in some way both of the Ads are related and meaningful to us. Like this, ads about restaurants, websites, and other businesses are being directed to us (the potential customers).
However, sending an email without the consent of receiver is illegal, and an email without Un-Subscribe Link is another offense, which should be kept in mind while advertising.
Both of above two elements are missing at most of times, making these marketing emails an offense – and can be charged under Cyber Crime Act of Pakistan.

Pricing: In Pakistan email campaigns are charged on per shoot (or per one email) basis. Usually email-marketers charge from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 per email shoot. In one email shoot, they say that 300,000 to 500,000 users will get your message.
From where marketers get your Email: There are companies in Pakistan that offer 1 million email ids in a CD, that is easily available for Rs. 7,00 to Rs. 1,000.

Checking Gmail on your phone isn’t reserved for those of us with extra fancy mobile devices - sure, it’s easier to use Gmail when your iPhone has a touchscreen or there’s a downloadable app built especially for your BlackBerry, but Gmail is available on almost all mobile devices today. If your phone has a data plan, it can get Gmail. There are three main ways to check your messages on the go:

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Chaudary, while hearing a petition regarding privatization of PTCL, has termed PTCL’s privatization as a large scale scandal, reported ‘Daily Jang’ today.
While noting its observations, honorable court said that buyer was given concessions while it breached the agreement.
CJ is going to chair a bench of three Judges to hear the case from October 19th, 2009.
On petition filed by Malik Maqbool, General Secretary PTCL Line’s staff, CJ summoned all applications regarding the privatization of PTCL, and said they will be settled collectively during proceedings.
Court has asked PTCL for response over the petition, while Secretary Privatization has also been summoned in next hearing.

General Secretary PTCL Line’s staff informed that 26 percent shares of PTCL were sold in year 2005 for a value of 2.599 billion dollars, with administrative control, to Etisalat. Petitioner noted that PTCL earned net profit of Rs. 29.4 billion in year 2004, while company incorporated 75,000 employees then. After privatization, the profit has squeezed down to 9 Rs. Billion only, further said the petitioner.
It was noted that Etisalat had to pay USD 2.599 billion in 30 days – but in April 2006, agreement was re-settled and payment was scheduled in installments, which Etisalat is still paying.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja mentioned that Agreement was not entertained at all, instead of taking action against the buyer, it was offered with incentives and concessions.
PTCL employees’ petitions will be coupled with the privatization application, in principal.

Web Lounge website says that service gives its customers a detailed insight into their Telenor connection and helps them manage their account effectively. Telenor Subscribers can View call details, payment history, order duplicate bills, make a payment, and enhance deposit etc.
Weblounge’s this link is to buy new Telenor connections or to port into Telenor, while, Weblounge also offers current Telenor customers to sign-up their accounts for managing their connections through another url.
Here is the sign-up link
Now here is an issue that we just came across, that Telenor is letting everyone registering an account on its portal. With everyone I mean, Ufone, Zong, Mobilink customers can apply for the registration.
Web Lounge will send you a PIN as SMS on your non-telenor number to register – looks like system doesn’t check at all if the user is a Telenor subscriber or not and sends PIN.

....Type rest of the post here
Apparently, this is a system bug – but not really, as after sending your System gonna ask you about your network, and there are options for other networks too that you can select from. Which means Telenor has planned this thing, may be to collect valid information of mobile subscribers belonging to other networks – or there might be some other reason.

So portal will take all information, and will act normally, (even it says that you are almost done – just provide following information) until you login with your user name and password – where it will prompt you that you are not a Telenor subscriber and you can safely log off. (By the way, i had mentioned that i am a Ufone subscriber while filling the registration form).

Our point is, if this portal is not intended to entertain other networks’ subscribers, then why does it collect the information? like email address, phone number, name and others? Instead it should straight away communicate that this service is only for Telenor Customers.

We also contacted Telenor to get their verdict about this issue of information theft - however we are waiting for any viewpoint from their side.
Earlier it looked like a system bug, but now its evident that Telenor is deliberately collecting information of other mobile operators.

Only you can help us determine what should we call it? A planned information theft or just a system bug?
Update
: Telenor, has responded to our query and said that the option of registration for all networks may not be fully functional yet, however, it has been included to support future services from our web platform and will help integrate all potential users.

Microsoft has been trying to change their products and service according to their new Live name. Like Windows Live messenger, Windows Live mail, Windows live search etc
With that they also changed their domain names and introduced Windows live email with domain @live.com, which later they expanded it to countries by giving different country domains for live users, for example @live.co.in for india, @live.co.uk for UK etc but most of the countries are still in their pipeline.
In year 2005 when they were new with @live, reportedly some hackers hacked their sign-up site and everybody was able to create MSN ids of their own choice, everyone was able to create any country @live domain email id with the hacked link, those were not real domains but they were supported by MSN and their sites, messenger etc, any domains like Yourid@yourname.com, yourid@shararti.com, yourid@piyarabacha.pk etc, Microsoft suspended such accounts later which were created by that hacked sign-up link.
And now currently Microsoft is not allowing users to create @live.com.pk domain ids for their live email and live messenger services. By the way, in past Microsoft had allowed @live.com.pk but now they are not giving these localized ids.

Step 4: Microsoft will send an email containing confirmation link to your email address which you have given in the sign up process. Confirm your registration by clicking confirmation link in your email inbox by Microsoft.
Step 5: After you have confirmed, go again to http://passport.net/ and click on Sign in link from the top right corner.

In Pakistan, it’s been long time that we have not seen longer investments in the post-paid segment of Telco market of Pakistan. The main reason for ignoring Post-Pay market is ARPU and “instant payment as You Use” and list goes on…The future of Pakistani Telco market is vulnerable (for postpaid segment at least) and will not be opportunistic in any sense to cellular mobile operators. The main reasons for not having confidence on Post-Paid market in Pakistan are:
Bad Debts
Cost of Recovery Resources
Customer Loyalty cost is High
Lack of vigilant billing systems
Bad Debts:
Bad debts are always primary interest to Telco’s in postpaid segment of market. Because, most of the customers refused to pay bills or if they pay bills they pay lump sum amount to recovery agent and deny paying any further dues for using services of any particular mobile operator.

....Type rest of the post here
Cost of Recovery Resources:
Cost of recovery resources include: human resource hiring, T.A / D.A etc to build efficient recovery resources in the city and in fact this include all over Pakistan. Telco’s are no more interested to invest in this context of their company resources, because when they compare these resources with prepaid investments , cost might equal to a launching a service in prepaid segment as compare to postpaid recovery resources development, where especially, they are not even sure that users will pay the complete amount or vice versa.
Customer Loyalty cost is high:
The cost of customer loyalty is too high in postpaid segment, because postpaid customers are mostly corporate customers and building loyalty for them is too expensive, because corporate sector has separate attitude to deal with.Deals like Loyalty Cards discounts, lunch / dinner discounts, travelling air tickets discounts are always handled by redemption of redeem points. But these redeem points are again extra cost to company and when company compares this prepaid segment as cost goes significantly high.
Lack of Vigilant Billing Systems:
The billing systems are too weak to provide customer about their updated (real time) information of their usage and mostly customers get charged invalidly. Billing systems like convergent billing systems provide facility of charge customer in actual usage. But again unfortunately, Telco’s are not interested to invest in billing systems as postpaid market overhead is more than prepaid market.
I believe that postpaid segment will not see an end by any of the mobile operators in Pakistan, but there will be no heavy investments in this segment of market except smart solutions offerings like “BlackBerry” or “Mobile 2.0”, where Mobile 2.0 will take almost more than half decade in Pakistan to be adopted by corporate sector.
As it is said by some expert “that every difficulty comes with opportunities”, so if any of mobile operator invest in this segment intelligently in a way that they are able to flourish the market in a way like prepaid is on its peak, for sure they will reap the fruit.
There is a strong rumor in the market that one of multinational mobile operator in Pakistan is working on grasping this opportunity, Let’s See what Happens!!

4 per hour
Stable Network
Good Customer Support
If a company is offering such a tariff, according to experts it will beat the competition with no hurdle, keeping in mind that these five elements cover more than 90 percent of what public demands from cellular companies.

A few months ago I wrote a review about PTCL’s then brand-spanking-new EV-DO service. And if memory serves, I was pretty high on it. Since then, I’ve been travelling internationally much of the time and haven’t had an opportunity to use it much or to followup on the numerous comments and alternate perspectives that were presented in the original review’s discussion section. A lot of folks felt that it wasn’t working as well and many opined that Wordcall might be the better option.
So with the spirit of sacrifice firmly entrenched in my heart, I ventured out to perform yet another noble public service that TechLahore has become world renowned for… I purchased a Worldcall EV-DO USB device. Now I could put the two competing dongles in a glass jar, seal said jar with an impregnable carboard-and-rubberband lid and watch as both dongles played out their enmity by beating each other black and blue. Hehehe. Which dongle would survive?
I was incredibly disappointed when – even after my best efforts and much verbal prodding – both dongles just lay lifeless in the glass jar. A kid whose candy had been snatched from him, was I. The smile that anticipation of impending violence had put on my face was wiped clean in moments. It was quite clear. These damn dongles had no fight in them at all… pathetic little sissy boys. Thus, I was forced to take alternate measures.
Alternate measures, of course, were the handy Speedtest.net service, something I’ve used in the past to measure PTCL EV-DO performance. With both dongles now out of the glass jar, I was well positioned to test the sworn enemies side by side and finally form an informed opinion about which provides better service. First to enter the ring was new contender and wannabe pretty boy, Worldcall… weighing in at just over a 1Mbps download.
....Type rest of the post here
And now, weighing in at 1.54 Mbps, the reigning champion, the mean machine… PTCL EV-DO!

So there you have it folks, PTCL bloodied Worldcall’s nose, twisted its arm and only got jabbed unconvincingly in response. A one sided affair if I ever saw one. EVO comes in at 1.52Mbps vs. 1.1Mbps for Wordcall; PTCL is 38% faster on the downlink. PTCL is able to upload at .47Mbps while Wordcall maxes out at 0.34Mbps, here again PTCL is 38% faster. Only in the latency dept. does Worldcall show slightly better performance, at 308ms vs. 345ms for PTCL.
The point to note here is that this is the best I’ve seen Wordcall perform so far. I did these tests in the am when probably not too many people use it. Generally, through the day, Wordcall suffers a 50% performance degradation and seldom goes beyond .45Mbps for downloads. PTCL stays above 1Mbps in all cases I’ve measured so far.
As I concluded my tests the Wordcall dongle which had now turned black and blue, but was thus-far lying in the typicaly unassuming fashion that USB dongles lie, suddenly shook, vibrated, did a little jig and winced… I could hear it saying, “The battle may be over, but the war is far from won.

We’ll just have to see about that, Wordcall, we’ll just have to see about that.

Indus valley civilization is the most elegant among her contemporary societies of the world such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, China etc: around past five thousand years, at whatever expertise these cultures are compared. As this was nonviolent land of friendly people, consequently travelers, explorers, voyages, sailors and merchants had been felt tranquility of social life.
Exploratory diggings of Indus sites specially its capital city Mohenjo Daro (the mound before River Indus) clearly reveals the excavators that living of its residents were scientifically prosperous, god planners regarding architecture and construction, more over they have been best scientists, sculptures, adventurers, pioneers, amusers, jewelers, priests, pottery makers, hunters, fighters, worriers, agriculturists so on and so forth.
Scores of historians and writers quoted Indus people, civilization and cities as mysterious, no doubt we are still dealing with the tips of iceberg regarding the interpretation of script only whereas to name rest of all the things strange is bogus air of mystery, therefore this would not be justice to label such well of civilization as baffling one whereas each object founded from here is explaining about its artistic origin plainly.

....Type rest of the post here
This is not an assumption but a fact what can be proved by seen the said artifacts founded from the ruins of Indus cities, displayed in the museums. It is also truth that such inventive thoughts of Sindhi creators, spread around in the form of designs and objects where ever possible and inspired the ingenious minds to follow and continue the chain of attainments. In this scenario it can be said that creativeness of Sindhi people have been lions share regarding evolutionary development of human race in the course of times.
This little piece of writing will make clear those inhabitants of this land were scientifically advance in various fields and technologies before the advent of history. They used to live in spacious, planned and well built houses when almost whole Europe was fogged into social and cultural illiteracy.
The remains of Indus cities and objects founded from excavations proved their owners as scientific, social and sensible. They conquered many horizons of infinite development of human being to facilitate their life towards easiness and luxury.
Lets for instance, proving my statement, discussing about few unique Indus inventions and their concepts, many among those crafts, models and ideas are still practiced in specially Asia and generally rest of the world.
First of all taking an example from world’s most popular game Chess (played by an estimated 605 million people), so called a “Royal game” by Europeans. Researchers had the thought that not only the aspects of art and science are found in theory and composition of chess but way of gaming is also considered the method of enhancing mental strength.
The game is played on a square chessboard, at the start, each player (“white” and “black”) controls sixteen pieces, one king, one queen, two rocks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in “check”) and there is no way to take it out from attack on the next move.
English and few other nations by claim of the invention concerning Chess around few hundred years back into their world famous authenticated publications, for example as per Encyclopedia Wikipedia “current form of the Chess emerged in Southern Europe in the second half of the 15th century”. This statement is wide of mark for Chess is five thousand year old and original product and invention of Sindhi people because its complete form has been found from excavations of Mohenjo Daro (capital city of Indus valley civilization in Larkana District of Sindh Province of Pakistan) and is kept for display in its site Museum.
It has an other Indian origin name Shitranj, since the Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Greek, Portuguese and Spanish words for chess are derived from the ancient Indian word Chaturanga, i.e. four divisions of the military, infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots. Only India throughout the history of war world had in its cavalry all three animals – elephant, camel and horse – represented by the rock, bishop and knight.
Taking brainwave from the core concept of Chess, an other game of “Playing Cards” was founded, having same pattern, theory etc. Only the difference between chess and cards is the gaming pattern, one is playing on board other with cards. As the said period did not have printing availability thus the cards might had been engraved or embossed forms of making, like the metallic and stone seals or inscriptive plates of Mohenjo Daro. Moreover the cards might had been made on wooden plates, skin or if pro assume on paper this will again enhance the discussion for paper as invention of Indus people.
Despite the fact that search and research require to verify my statement, however the wood, skin, paper type of things must had been used for cards manufacturing but as such perishable material can not exist to tell their tale into salty grounds of Sindh for thousands years, but this is crystal clear that which nation invented the chess she should genuinely be the creator of playing cards.
Inventions of the Dice (Loodo in Greek and Chakko in Sindhi language) has been claimed by Greeks, that’s why it is called Loodo reveals meaning as “come play”. Greeks verdict regarding rights of dice is also wrong because comprehensive form of dice has been found from Mohenjo Daro having same outward appearance like modern one. Time comparison as regards Greek and Sindh make us known that former is more than thousand year younger to later one, Indus people had dice five thousand years ago whereas Greek history at that time was blank around centuries.
Dice is actually Sindhi original pastime because the oldest known dice were excavated as part of a 5000 year old back from archaeological site of Mohenjo Daro and then at the archaeological site of Burnt in south eastern Iran. To strengthen its Indus origin I mentioned few examples of ancient script of South Asia, because the Dicing has been mentioned in Rig Veda and Atharva Veda. It is also mentioned in Buddha’s games list, great Hindu epic the Mahabharta where Yudhisthira plays a game of dice against the Kauravas for the northern kingdom of Hastinpura.
Moreover Indus people evolved many new techniques in metallurgy; they produced copper, bronze, lead and tin. Their engineering skills were remarkable, especially in building docks after a careful study of tides, waves and currents. A touch stone bearing gold strips was found from here probably used for testing the purity of gold; such techniques are still prevailing in many countries of the world along with sub continent.
Many crafts such as shell working, ceramics, agate, and glazed steatite bead making were used in the manufacture of necklaces, bangles, beads and other ornaments from all phases of Indus sites. Several make-up and toiletry items, a special kind of comb and a three-in-one toiletry implement are also founded. Terracotta female figurines having red color applied to the middle head line appeared as a result of hair partition, the ritual tradition can still be seen in India which is called “maang” and considered to be the symbol of married women.
Seals have been found in Mohenjo Daro depicting a figure stand on its head, an other sitting cross-legged in a yoga like pose pinched our attention that yoga is much ancient than is considered its start from Buddha period. Some Indus valley seals show swastika which can be found among many religions and mythologies of the time, same swastika was also symbol of German dictator Adolph Hitler. A harp-like instrument depicted on an Indus seal and two shell objects indicate the use of stringed musical instrument. An other instrument is also found which was used to measure whole sections of the horizon and the tidal dock.
They achieved great accuracy and preciseness in measuring length, mass and time. The minimum division marked on an ivory scale is approximately 1.704 mm, it is the smallest distribution ever recorded on a scale of the Bronze Age. Indus engineers followed the decimal division of measurement for all practical purposes, including the measurement of mass as revealed by their hexahedron weights. Cubical, truncated spherical, barrel shaped weights in graduated sizes, these weights confirm to the standard Indus binary weight system that was used in all of the settlements.
These weights were in a faultless ratio of 4-2-1 with weights of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1. 2. 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 units, with each unit weighting approximately 28 grams, similar to the English imperial ounce or Greek uncial whereas smaller objects were weighted in related ratios with the units of 0.871. Nevertheless, actual weights were not uniform throughout the area. The weights and measures later used in Kautilias Arthushtra (4th century BC) are the same as those used in Indus cities.
Spoons (tippers and ladles) are also beautiful Indus creations which are made from shells probably used in special rituals for dispensing sacred liquids such as water or oil, or may indicate its use of service purpose and feeding small doses of medicines. Different types of miniature masks, such as a home deities, puppets and masks representing different animals might have been used for recreational purposes. You don’t want to call again and again to Help Line for getting the MMS or GPRS settings for your handset? Or you have the settings but you doubt they are correct. Many of TechReaders.com readers email me and ask me the details of MMS/GPRS settings for their mobile operators. I thought; why not provide details for all operators. This article will guide you with step by step process of activating MMS or GPRS for different networks in Pakistan i.e. Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid, and Zong. Let’s start with Mobilink.
Following details are for manual GPRS/MMS settings but you can always get settings by either calling help line or sending SMS. I would recommend help line option because you get the settings instantly. In case of SMS request, it could take up to 24 hours.
